As at May 15 2021 the QVMAG's 'governing body' is the City ofLaunceston's Councillors. Due recent events some of the institutions personnel have changed as indicated below.
The QVMAG is 'owned and operated by the City of Launceston' and unlike many other like institutions it does not have a stand alone Board of Trustees. The institution operates as a 'cost centre' within the city's operations and receives the major component its recurrent funding via the the city's ratepayers.
The institution is also provided with financial support from the Tasmanian Government that essentially increases annually in line with the CPI.
All employees are employed by the MunIcipality of Launceston under local government employment arrangements.
The city's Councillors are the QVMAG'S default Trustees CUM Board of Governance and currently (2020) the Councillors are:

- Councillor Janie Finlay – was elected to the State Parliament in the State's May 2021 election. In due course she will be replaced via a process oversighted by the State Electoral Commission..
